Welcome to Art 112 - Non Western Art.
We will study the art of a number cultures outside of the ’European tradition’[frequently referred to as the Western tradition]. In the process of looking at these arts and cultures, we will consider the issues around the ’Western’ and ’Non Western’ discussion, as well as historic and contemporary issues and trends. We will also need to study a certain amount of basic art theory, design and art making methods and techniques. Slides, films, discussions, guest speakers as well as projects will form the body of the class. The focus of study will vary with regard to the background, interests and experience of the particular class.
